The Metropolitan of Przemyśl, Archbishop Adam Szal, makes a special appeal for prayer for peace in the world and encourages prayer for the homeland.

Dear Diocesan Members,

Trusting in Divine Providence, reflecting on the great works and interventions of God, many of which have marked the pages of our national history, and which we do not forget, let us entrust in prayer our beloved Homeland and the diocesan community, that He may “deign to preserve us from the air, hunger, fire, and war.” Let us persevere in prayer, imploring the gift of peace in countries engulfed by armed conflict. Let us pray for repentance for perpetrators and those who put their own interests and ambitions above the good of others, bringing suffering and even death upon them.

Dear priests, religious fathers, leaders of the People of God, I encourage you, starting Sunday, September 14th, for nine consecutive days, to sing the “Supplications” with the faithful during each Holy Mass for peace in the world and to include an appropriate call to prayer for the faithful. Let us strive together to read the signs of the times and respond to them with faith, abiding before Jesus hidden in the Blessed Sacrament. You can also pray a decade of the rosary for this intention, offer fasting, or use other prayers (e.g., the Novena through the intercession of St. Andrew Bobola).

Dear Diocesan Members, I kindly ask you to take up this prayerful invitation in your homes during family prayer, for example, during the evening prayer service, or in communion with our compatriots during the Jasna Góra Appeal.

Strengthened by God’s grace, united in our concern for our homeland, the Archdiocese, and those suffering as a result of wars around the world, let us not cease to pray for peace among us compatriots, harmony in our families, and for nations in conflict. God, one in the Holy Trinity! May Your Spirit descend and renew the face of the earth!

With pastoral blessing,

+ Archbishop Adam Szal, Metropolitan of Przemyśl
